Privacy & data

A short explanation of how the public beta works. Updated 16 October 2026.

Your notes stay in your browser

Desknotes does not require an account. Note titles, text, version history, and trash are stored in your browser using IndexedDB. Desknotes does not upload note contents to its server or to analytics. Exported backup and TXT files are created on your device.

What can be lost?

Clearing site data, private browsing, device failure, or browser storage eviction can remove locally stored notes. Different devices do not synchronize. Export JSON backups regularly and keep copies in a safe place.

Anonymous website traffic measurement

When enabled in the Vercel project, Desknotes uses Vercel Web Analytics to understand visits, referrer sources, approximate countries, browsers, and visited pages. Vercel describes this service as cookie-free and using anonymized analytics data. The app sends no custom note events, note text, titles, search queries, or note identifiers. The analytics script removes arbitrary URL queries and fragments. Only fixed, non-identifying marketing tags (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign) from an allowlist may be retained in analytics pageviews. One-tap feedback tracks only a selected category as an anonymous page visit, and never collects note content or typed comments. The service may process technical request data to serve the website.

Other storage and sharing

Your browser also remembers theme and language choices. The site is hosted by Vercel and may use service-worker caches for offline access. If you share an exported file, whoever receives it can read its contents. Avoid using this public beta as the only storage location for important information.

Contact and updates

This page is an operational privacy notice for a beta, not a complete jurisdiction-specific legal privacy policy. A verified operator contact and formal disclosures must be added before wider marketing or monetization.
